One End of Summer AC Issue to Watch Out for This Year

May 16, 2025

Summer is almost over! That’s very hard to believe here in San Antonio, right? We still have at least a few weeks left of intense heat to deal with. As such, you’ve hopefully had a properly functioning air conditioner up to this point. After all, it’s nearly impossible to get through a summer here without a fully operating air conditioning system.

Your residential AC system is designed to stand up to extreme temperatures and many years of use, including periods of soaring heat. However, the end of summer is usually when these systems start to suffer breakdowns. This is especially true if you have an aging cooling system and/or you’ve neglected annual preventive maintenance.

The Problem with Intense Heat

Your AC system has been placed under a lot of stress all summer long. As such, the circuit breaker to which your AC system is connected has been placed under a lot of stress. During a day of intense heat where you are running your cooling system all day long, the circuit breaker can trip and a small power outage could occur. Although it may only last a short while, that is a period that you are without cooling on an incredibly hot day.

Two other common heat-related AC issues are failed capacitors and burnt-out motors. Your capacitors are electronic systems responsible for transferring electrical charges to the various motors within your air conditioning system. The high heat shortens the capacitors’ lifespan—and does the same to your motors. This is particularly true in aging systems that have developed a good amount of wear and tear. The good news is that if you do run into a late summer air conditioning problem, our staff is ready to help!

Why Is Insulation So Important?
